SILHOUETTE PAPER CUTTING |
| SILHOUETTE PAPER CUTTING
So, this form of art, in many forms and styles, developed in many countries. I have enjoyed making silhouette paper cutting forms since my childhood. For my own pleasure, I created an entire world with this form of paper cutting art. This personal world of paper not only gave me immense joy but also developed my nuro muscular coordination. Silhouette paper cutting art can start with basic simplicity and reach the ultimate in Art through display of skill in imagery and control of the tool. I never make any drawing or tracing when making the silhouette art forms. Forms are cutout instantly with a sure handed skill with a proper knowledge of proportion and composition. Two dimensional cutouts, made in an absolutely free flowing manner can successfully create an illusion of depth. A knowledge of perspective is necessary for this sort of work. Though depicting the subject in a contour form, the silhouettes can be amazingly realistic. In fact, the suggestive depth of the silhouettes makes this style of paper cutting art a much more realistic than other forms of paper cutting art. I have made innumerable paper cutting silhouette art pieces for art lovers in different countries, and held demonstrations of this form of art at many places. The range of my subjects is diverse and I enjoyed tackling new and complicated forms. Children in different countries have suggested one different form after another and I have made cutouts of those forms in front of them instantly. Silhouette portrait making is practiced in many countries. I make silhouette paper portaits too. The shadows of the silhouettes make extremely interesting displays. The silhouettes can be mounted on cards of contrasting hue, and framed if wished. The portraits are lifelike and take about a minute or two to make. In some cases it may take less than a minute to make a portrait in paper cutting even.Ofcourse it is done without any drawing at all. Prabal Pramanik
